A couple of notes for newer members: 1) The club enters your scores on IG when you play in club competitions, so please DO NOT enter them yourselves on your phone or the club computer. If in any doubt about any of the rules of competitions, please see either the notice board in the lounge or the blog earlier in the year (see below)
2) If for any reason after a "drawn" competition has been made you need to withdraw please phone the Club 01277 218850 and leave a brief message to that effect if your a no show on the saturday morning without such a message you will be fined £10

If your unclear on this please contact the club.

COMPETITION NEWSFLASH APRIL 24
THE HONEYMOON IS OVER
The Competition Committee (CC) have identified a significant lack of compliance with the competition rules in the events run so far this year and have endeavoured to initially take a more relaxed view of the lesser breaches for these opening competitions to allow for new members and “teething troubles”. However players should be aware this “honeymoon period” of loose compliance with and application of the rules cannot be allowed to continue. The CC therefore give notice that all the competition entry rules must now be fully complied with and will be strictly applied for all future competitions.
Examples of just some of the main failings to date include:-
1) failure to sign on IG by relevant deadline (draw date or 9.30 am on playing date for own comps)
2) failure to correctly complete and submit the score card (player and marker must BOTH sign and print their names; missing comp name; date and tees played from etc.)
3) failure to pay either by deadline or correct method (e.g. bank transfer not allowed; only one comp per envelope)
4) failure to pre-notify CC of wish to play outside roll up times for “own times” comps
All players are urged to read the 2024 rules (on this board) to avoid future non-compliance potentially leading to exclusion, disqualification, disappointment and/or fines.
Any queries please contact CC.

29/3/24
As we are approaching the competition season it's a timely reminder to highlight the entry T&C's (see an "extract" below). Please take time to read all the rules circulated to everyone on or about 7/2/24 together with the main changes from the previous issue. A full copy of the rules have been / are on the notice board.
If people are still having trouble to understand any points, please ask for help and a meeting will be arranged with you to talk them through with you point by point as no one wants anyone to fall foul of anything.

2024 Competition Rules Updates Notes
The Competition Committee (CC) confirm the new rules will replace all previous editions and apply with immediate effect. There are a few explanatory notes below highlighting the main changes from the 2023 rules which have been introduced to clarify some confusions which arose last year.
The Club Committee has decided that the entry fee for standard competitions will be increased to £3 for the 2024 season which excludes “special competitions” such as Captains Day and Winter Eclectic.
In 2024 players will need to complete three things to enter a competition all by the competition deadline date e.g. 9 days before play if a drawn competition.
1. Write your name on the entry sheet on the notice board
2. Pay the fee (if not in the Prepaid Scheme)
3. Sign on to the HGC Roll up times on the Council IG system
Failure to complete all three by the deadline will result in your entry not being accepted.
In line with the increase in basic competition fees the withdrawal rules and fines have been further updated and clarified.
It is intended to award prize money periodically throughout the year and present trophies only at the AGM.
The CC will be happy to answer any questions players may have,
For and on behalf of CC
---------------------------------------
The Competition Committee (CC) confirm these rules will replace all previous editions and apply with immediate effect.
1. Rules and requirements for entry to Competition: -
1.1 Competitions are open to all Club Members, (irrespective of gender unless otherwise stated), who at the time of the draw have a WHS Index.
1.2 Your “playing HCP” is dependent on your WHS index applied to the course slope rating on the day of play. These handicaps may be further adjusted to reflect a particular competition playing allowance e.g. a playing allowance of 95% of handicap for singles competitions.
2. There are two main types of competitions: -
2.1 “Drawn competitions” (DC) (including knockouts) where times and/or partners are computer drawn. These will usually start at 8:24 am with the last tee time varying depending upon number of entries.
2.2 “Own times” (OT) (i.e. when drawn comps don’t apply) competitions where you enter the competition and play on the relevant date at a time within the clubs “Roll up allocation* and with partners you choose.
3. To enter a competition
You need to complete all three of the following requirements by the competition deadline (draw date for DC or 9.15 am OT play date). Failure to complete all three requirements in time will result in your entry not being accepted.
3.1 Enter your name on the entry form on the lounge notice board.
3.2 Pay your entry fee (if not in pre-paid scheme)
3.3 Book on to the Council IG booking system online within the “Roll Up” times allocated to the club by the competition deadline date[1]
Closing dates / times to enter are either:
“DC” noon 9 days before the playing date.
“OT” 9.15 am on the day of play.
4. Payment: -
There are three ways to pay your entry fee.
4.1 “Prepaid” scheme (PP) member[2] (£50 for 2024 season)
4.2 “Envelope Payer” (EP)[3] Where competitions cost £3 per person unless specifically stated otherwise e.g. Captains Day, Winter Eclectic.
4.3 Card payment ensuring both your name and the specific competition being paid for is recorded. It is each players responsibility to ensure payment is made by the relevant deadline.
No other payment method is allowed.
5. Knock out / Drawn competitions-
5.1 Only those who have complied with all three requirements above will be drawn for the competition. The club will not add extra players into the competition once the draw has been made.
5.2 If you wish to be considered for inclusion in the competition after the draw deadline, then you must pay the entry fee for that competition and place your name on the sheet as a reserve and sign on to IG booking system within the roll up times allocated to the club. Should a player who has been drawn be unable to play then you will be invited to fill that vacancy. If there is more than one reserve, then the reserves will be offered drop out places in order. If no dropouts you will not be included but will be refunded if EP. Nb: No reserve lists are operated for knockout or own partner competitions.
5.3 All “drawn” competitions must be played on the times and with playing partners “as drawn” and published unless prior permission is given by the CC for alterations.
6. Arranging Knockout Matches
6.1 It is the responsibility of the person/pair at the top of the draw (the “home team”) to contact their opponent (“away team”) asap after knowing who they are drawn against and offer 3 playing times including a minimum two weekends (one weekend includes both Saturday and Sunday). If the opponent is unable to make any of the dates offered the opponent can offer 2 alternatives in return. If you are unable to agree a mutual playing time, the matter should be referred to the CC. NB priority will generally be given to the name at the top of the draw providing the above procedure has been followed. However, to ensure full compliance with the above procedure contact should be made by the home team at the earliest opportunity and, for example, with four weekends left in the playing period to afford the away team the opportunity to counter-offer alternative weekend dates. If the home team wait until the latter part of the playing period to offer dates thereby denying the away team the chance to offer alternative dates e.g. as two weekends have already passed, then preference will be given to the away team by the CC. The greater the restriction on your playing availability e.g. holidays, “not available Sundays” etc the greater the onus is on you to make early arrangements. If, due to GDPR restrictions, your contact information is not in the club diary then you assume the role of “home team” and are required to make due contact. If neither teams’ details are included in the diary then contact will have to be made via the club Secretary.
6.2 It is required that teams contact the Secretary to reserve a Roll up time slot on your arranged playing date to avoid last minute changes which potentially adversely affect other players allocated times and groups. If this is not done then preference will be given to players as per the club allocated times.
6.3 Pairs may choose to be represented by only one player if they so wish but they cannot require their opponents to be represented by a single player e.g., if they have failed to make early contact thereby denying the opponents the opportunity to play together.
6.4 The R&A recommend against players being able to use a single round to play both a stroke play/stableford competition AND a match play competition at the same time as the rules and strategies differ and this recommendation has been adopted as a club rule. Any players found to have played a match play and club strokeplay/stableford competition in the same round will be disqualified from both.
6.5 To ensure there is sufficient time to play all the knockout rounds necessary to complete within the overall time schedule only 32 players or teams will be allowed into the knockout competitions, these will be the first 32 (paid) names on the sheet by the draw deadline.
6.6 All matches MUST be complete, and results written up by the deadline dates indicated on the knockout sheet or both players/teams will be eliminated.
6.7 Extensions of time to round deadline dates will only be given in exceptional circumstances as decided by the CC.
7 Cancellation / postponement of competition.
7.1 The CC may at any time change the dates for competitions.
7.2 If the Course is closed the competitions may be deferred to another time. All monies collected will be returned to entrants.
7.3 If the Course has restrictions (eg carry only, excess number of temp greens, temp tees etc) the competition may be deferred to another time at the sole discretion of the CC. All monies collected will be returned to entrants.
7.4 If the Competition needs to be cancelled because of low number of entrants it may be deferred to another time at the discretion of the CC. All monies collected will be returned to entrants EXCEPT if this scenario is created by No Shows (“NS”) or late withdrawals in which case those no shows and late pull outs will be penalised as explained below.
8 Withdrawing from a competition.
8.1 If you wish to withdraw from a competition at ANY time the only way to do this is by telephoning the club on 01277 218850 and leaving a message (which the system will auto time and date)
8.2 The latest time you can withdraw from a competition is no later than 7.30 am on the day (or last day) of play. You also need to remove your name from the Councils IG system Roll up names list.
8.3 In OWN pairs /team events,
if a player withdraws before the first match, then another person can be invited to fill that vacancy providing, they pay their own entry fee and have not entered or played as part of another team.
8.4 “DC” All players withdrawing from a competition before the draw date will have any entry fee refunded and will not be penalised.
8.5 “DC” Withdrawing after the draw date results in no entry fee being refunded to “EP”. “PP” players will be fined £3 for withdrawing after the draw date and not be permitted to play or enter further competitions until the £3 is paid.
8.6 “OT” All players withdrawing from an own times competition before 7.30am on the playing date (or last playing date for multi day comps) will not be penalised and EP will be refunded. Failure to notify withdrawal will incur a penalty as detailed below.
8.7 Withdrawals not notified via club phone (No Shows “NS”): All players failing to individually withdraw by the 7.30 am deadline via club phone will be deemed “no shows”.
· “DC” they will be fined an additional £10 over late withdrawal penalty and banned from future comps till paid.
· “OT” EP will lose their £3 fee (or be fined £3 if not already paid) PP will be fined £3 and both will be banned from future competitions till paid.
NB Only CC members are permitted to alter and initial start or draw sheets. All unauthorised alterations will be ignored. Failure to notify your withdrawal from a competition via club phone will result in you being deemed a “no show” and being subject to the penalties applicable to that failure.
9. Playing in Competition / Results:
9.1 Other than match play competitions. There are “NO Gimme’s” Everything MUST be putted out (even the tiddlers) unless it is a stableford competition and you can no longer score in which case you should pick up to speed up play.
9.2 Swap cards with your playing partners prior to commencing your round. At the end of the round ensure you and your marker have both signed and printed your names on the card as being correct.
9.3 Please ensure your scores are legible and, preferably, tear off the course planner before entering your card in the box.
9.4 When you have finished your round post your signed scorecard in the post-box sited beneath the bell adjacent to the Bar, or in the case of a knockout competition the winning team should progress their name on the sheet provided on the notice board.
9.5 Results will be announced as soon as possible following completion of the competition subject to volunteers’ availability.
10 Disqualifications
10.1 Breaches of any rules set out above will mean players will be disqualified at the discretion of the CC.
10.2 Players not completing a card correctly may also result in disqualification.[4]
11 Prizes
11.1 Prizes will be awarded for all competitions periodically as decided by the CC
11.2 Automatic qualification for entry to each year’s master’s competition will be given for all winners & runner ups from the previous season plus previous eligible past championship winners
11.3 The winners name will be entered on any trophies and notice board applicable for the competition won and trophies will be presented at the AGM

B. Envelope Payers (EP) Write the name of the competition on the envelopes supplied along with your name(s) and (if possible) enter the correct amount of money, seal and post the envelope in the post box by the bar bell. (If you have no change, put a note in, write its value on the envelope and you will receive change later). Sign on to IG system by the appropriate deadline.

D. Multiple players can enter money in one envelope for THE SAME COMPETITION ONLY
E. Correctly Completing a Competition Card
Some players are unfamiliar or struggle with completing competition cards, therefore, to clarify this the requirements for filling in your card are set out below. Failure to submit a correctly completed card may result in disqualification.
a) Competition: this means the named competition you are playing in.
b) Name: This is your name, please PRINT IT including your surname, hopefully you’ll appreciate in many cases you are not the only person with your Christian name in the club. You also need to print the name of your marker.
c) Tees: please indicate which tees you are playing off ie red, white or yellow if a choice is allowed
d) Date: Complete the date on which you played as some competitions are spread over several days
e) Please remember it is your personal card (One card cannot be used for 2 players in a singles competition) therefore your responsibility to ensure it is completed correctly and signed by the marker as well as yourselfand posted in the returns box by the bar bell.
f) Please enter scores clearly and legibly. If your scores must be “deciphered” a wrong score may be entered to your detriment.
g) Note no golf shoes are allowed in the lounge therefore either pay for the own times competition day(s) in advance OR if on the day ensuring you do not enter the lounge with golf shoes on.
h) Unless advised otherwise by the CC do not enter any intent to create a scorecard on your “My England app” on your phone nor enter anything onto the club lounge computer on the day of any competition you enter as the CC will do this after the competition has finished and this will be entered for handicap purposes, otherwise you will get an auto-penalty score
Pre-Paid Comps Scheme 2024
Prepay £50 (purchase available anytime in 2024) to allow entry in the following specific Club competitions as listed, no refunds or credits given for any reason. No other competitions are covered in the scheme. You still need to put your name down on the entry sheet and sign on to IG system by the deadline. If you intend to play 16 competitions or fewer then it will be cheaper for you enter each one individually via envelope or card payment although you will lose the benefit of convenience in doing so.
