The CC have provided a further update / clarity

The "area of abnormal course conditions" does include area(s) on the green(s). Notably, bare patches where grass is currently not growing are subject to relief without penalty, with the ball being moved to the nearest point of relief equidistant from the hole, to be agreed with playing partners.

With regards to the fairway, free relief applies to aeration holes, slits and general cracking due to ground conditions being affected by drought. Relief is to be taken by dropping the ball, no nearer the hole at the nearest point.

PS The competitions committee’s ruling on this is that no player should join up with a group drawn in a club competition 3 ball, irrelevant of their standing within the club. The competition committee bears no control of the tee times and/or groupings before and after the designation competition times (which will be no earlier than the pre-agreed 8:24am) therefore cannot comment on the scenario of a 4-ball being allocated before a competition 3 ball.

For the purpose of clarity

If you find yourself:-

1) Up against "any" boundary on the course there is NO free drop.

2) Up against the timber boards retaining the earth to the ditches such as the 2nd, 7th, 18th and possibly others YOU DO NOT GET ANY RELIEF

If you have any other Q which if you do be assured you wont be alone please raise them to hartswoodgolfclub@gmail.com as we are all (well most of us are STILL learning) and we can share the answers on here.
